Every next generation of the well-known Porsche 911 Carrera gets better and better each time they arrive on the car market. The power of these models edges further and further with every new update. It’s gotten to the point where the current ‘991.2’ Carrera S produces about the same power as the full-fat 911 Turbo from a couple of generations ago, and now, it’s been given another boost.
It’s all part of a range of new options Porsche has added to the 911 range. This includes new colours and upgraded connectivity, but - obviously - the extra poke is of greatest interest to us. An extra 30bhp can be added via a kit which includes larger turbochargers, modified brake cooling, a sports exhaust and the Sport Chrono pack with dynamic engine mounts. It’ll boost the 3.0-litre flat-six to 444bhp.So, with the same power and a Sport Chrono pack, it’ll make your Carrera S a GTS (above) in pretty much all but name. The trouble is, it might make it as expensive as a GTS, depending on how the UK pricing works out. It’s listed as €10,139 (£8750), which would push the price of a Carrera S to around €3000 under a GTS in Germany, but in the UK the price difference between the S and the GTS is slimmer.
So you might well be better off going for the GTS with its fancy styling tweaks, but it’s worth noting that from June this year, you can have the kit retrofitted to any 991.2 Carrera S already fitted with Sport Chrono (price TBC).
